I'm pretty happy about this if only because I feel like there's a much better chance for this show to actually get a blu-ray release now.

While I was not a fan of (the admittedly little I saw of) the Utena or Penguindrum dubs, the Yuri Kuma Arashi dub was pretty good when I re-watched the show. Sure, dubbing Ikuhara can sometimes feel like a thankless task, but it stayed very true to the original intent and I felt like the ADR director/writers really understood the show. If you definitely prefer dubs, or felt you would retain the information better hearing vs reading, you weren't missing out on anything with that adaptation.

Given how much more streamlined the simuldub process is compared to early 2015, I only expect this one to be even better.

this is great news. It was hard enough to follow with the sub, this should make it easier to follow.

It's admittedly odd. My thought is that there is sublicensing going on, even if there is no partnership since it was probably beneficial for both. Plus, getting paid a decent fee up front would be tempting compared to hoping exclusives entice a lot of new subscribers.

One of the reasons mentioned for the partnership ending was Sony/Funimation was looking to expand into new territories, and CR didn't want that. If these announcements are happening because of sublicensing, then the companies can pick and choose where they want to be exclusive.

Funimation did a fantastic job with dubbing Yuri Kuma Arashi in English so I'm really looking forward to the Sarazanmai dub and I look forward to getting this on Blu Ray.

Really great news (and totally unexpected, tbh). Really glad to see all my favorite series of the season (well, except Carole and Tuesday, which will eventually get dubbed anyway) getting a simuldub Cool

For years, we've been asking to funimation to expand its services here in latin america but they refused, they have the licenses for our region but they don't give a ---- about us. When funimation stated that one of the reasons they terminated their agreement with crunchyroll was because they wanted to expand and crunchyroll didn't allowed them to do so, many here agreed that if they really wanted to expand they would have done it like 5 years ago, and yet we're still waiting for that 'expansion'. This season crunchyroll only gave us like 8 good shows (including Sentai tittles) and the 'high seas' has the rest for us.

They did great work on the Yurikuma dub, so I'm looking forward to hearing it.

If Monica Rial gets cast in this, then she will have been in 3/4 of Ikuhara's shows. It is a shame that this ended up getting simuldubed, this is a show that having hindsight on how it plays out is very helpful. And the dub for Yuri Kuma Arashi was not very good, the bears were all shrill and had irritating voices, and then on the flip side you had the other characters who were deadpan in their performances.

Super disagree on that. Dub for Yurikuma was pretty good. The bears being somewhat shrill and the deadpan delivery was the same in the sub as well for some of the characters.

Personally, I don't think there has ever been a good English dub version of any of Ikuhara's series. The tone he sets is this weird balance between camp and sincerity, pathos and parody and that has always been hard to exactly match. Maybe if they gave it to Boom Zoom, they could nail it as they did with JoJo's Bizarre Adventure which is on the same kind of wavelength.

Apprehensive about dubbed Ikuhara in general but the positive comments about Yuri Kuma's dub give me hope.

That makes 3 out of 4 Ikuhara series dubbed in Texas now. (and 2 by FUNi) Shame LA never got to take a stab at one of his series.
