https://blogs.microsoft.com/on-the-issues/2022/03/04/microsoft-suspends-russia-sales-ukraine-conflict/

Five days ago, Microsoft announced the suspension of all product sales to Russia regardless of sector.

Looks like everyone’s on the same page.

Microsoft did it already, and I assume as XBOX is owned by microsoft they stopped business there, too.

Yeah, they are. I didn't see an announcement, so I wasn't aware if they did or not. I know Nintendo just said they were and then this article on Sony, so I wasn't sure if Mircosoft followed suit.

Good job folks you just made it worse than it already is. They take everything down they become nationalist.

Tell that to the kids in Ukraine who no longer have electricity, water, or heating. Russia is waging a war with no purpose other than terror and control. That they have an economy that has collapsed as a result of sanctions is their problem of their own doing. Maybe next time, they'll have an actual democracy and their citizens will elect responsible leaders and not craven maniacs, I'm not holding out hope.

Well they aren't selling them anywhere else, so I doubt anybody will notice.

It shows how much they "love" kids, they bombed a maternity and children's hospital...those kids could've been looking at this stuff when we're gone had they had a chance. A gaming console can be replaced. Human lives can't. The sooner they get that dictator out, the sooner Russia can heal from this madness as well. However, the people of Ukraine should be the focus as they will never be the same after this. And Russia did it all on their own, so if you want to be mad at someone, look at Putin, not the sanctions. His actions caused this slippery slope to happen.

For the nth time, these sanctions are not about "punishing" the Russian people, they're about putting pressure on the Russian leadership (I'm not even saying "government" because that's a joke and everyone knows it). The Russian people have no say in what their leader does, their leader has them at literal gunpoint.

That aside...

You know what is "certainly something" for an American? Being so wrapped up in "woe is me, we are so bad" self-flagellation and having so little understanding of geopolitics and current affairs, that you'd rather swallow propaganda from a hostile country designed to relativize and misdirect, out of confirmation bias, while sitting in the safety and comfort of being literally half the world away and being protected by the strongest economy and military in the world - that you'd rather do this, than face the fact that the world is messy and complicated.

Two things can be true at the same time. American imperialism being bad doesn't mean Russian imperialism is not bad (or even worse if you look at what happens when the US does imperialism in the 20th and 21st centuries, and when Russia does it). America having done bad things doesn't mean Russia should be allowed to do bad things. Just like how we're holding the US accountable, we should be holding Russia accountable as well. I'm honestly pretty disheartened by the number of Americans falling for blatant Russian propaganda intended to relativize and muddy the waters, believing everything they hear from RT, Redfish, Sputnik, etc., just because it says "the west is bad", not even understanding that they're justifying Russia's war by engaging in whataboutism and "both sides" bullcrap. I'll just leave this here, a depressingly accurate summary of this phenomenon:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcvfHa-GHSOHFAjU0-Ie57A/community?lb=UgkxW3EcE6fm8d2SpMQsYemKPJOA8ehoo8b9

(For disclosure: I live in a country neighboring Ukraine, I have many colleagues, friends and acquaintances in both Ukraine and Russia, some of whom are in bomb shelters, some of whom are out there protesting the war risking years in prison or being drafted, some of whom have fled with nothing but the clothes on their backs; our economy is absolutely affected by everything going on, and our own Dear Leader is so far up Putin's behind he couldn't crawl out from there even if he wanted to. And he doesn't.)

My one sentence in no way says that Russia is somehow forgiven because America does its own path of destruction. Like you said two things can be true. I'm not the one swallowing the propaganda. I'm not sure who is holding the US accountable. No country is going to oppose sanctions on America. Again, like you said we sit comfy in the world power completely safe from any similar consequence from the exact same actions. So not sure what your point even is.

You're swallowing the propaganda and continue justifying Russian aggression by engaging in whataboutism and misdirection, pointing out the US' dirty laundry even though it has nothing to do with the current situation. "Who is holding the US accountable" - what does that matter, re: Putin's war? What's the point of being "but but but the US does bad things too" when it's not the US committing war crimes in Ukraine right now; it's not the US threatening the world (including allies of the US!) with more aggression and even nuclear war; it's not the US destroying the lives of millions of people out of desperate attempt at regaining geopolitical power and relevance; it's not the US annexing territories of sovereign nations in the year of our lord 2014 or 2022; it's not the US demanding that countries like mine should be removed from an alliance they willingly joined, and put back under a Russian sphere of influence, our sovereignity be damned. Hell, it's not the US openly murdering their own journalists and activists who speak out against the system and its leader, not the US banning freedom of speech and citizens' access to information that contradicts the state narrative, making it a crime by law to refer to a war as "war" or saying that hey, maybe Ukrainians are not actually bombing themselves. Has the US done terrible things? Sure. Does that matter in this discussion? No. Trying to turn the conversation away from Russia's actions to those of the US is misdirection, plain and simple. Trying to be "OK but what happened when the US did [thing x]" is whataboutism.

That's not what I was saying, and you know it.

bleachj0j wrote:

My point is that you're misdirecting and relativizing. "But the US has done bad things too!" re: Russian aggression on Ukraine has become the "All lives matter" of this discussion. "Just pointing out the hypocrisy~" has become the "Just asking questions~"

There is time and place for having discussions about US imperialism and military actions. Discussions about Russia invading a sovereign country and committing war crimes there, and threatening other countries with similar aggression - are not that time and place.
