The music is by far the biggest difference between sub and dub when it comes to Pokemon. The original anime will use all sorts of great tracks, including game music, while the dub just... doesn't. It's a true shame.

The music is the sole reason why I refused to watch the dub. The fact that this show isn't simulcast with English subtitles to this day just shows how out of touch the distributors are.

this is not because of the distributors. it is because of Nintendo's dead stance on having their IPs like Mario and Pokémon to forever remain "family friendly" and the Japanese anime version is anything but family friendly by American's standard which is why everything got altered. including the original music.

I doubt changing the BGM has anything to do with a family friendly image so much is it is getting royalties from other dubs that use the English version as a base, but I always assumed the whole family friendly thing is a big chunk of why we don't get simulcasts. While they don't cut things as much as 4Kids used to there are still things here and there like Lenora's outfit, Ash T-Posing in XYZ and the whole Passimian episode that the powers-that-be would probably prefer to just sweep under the rug and pretend they don't exist instead of casually skipping a simulcast episode and drawing attention to it.

Though in a world where Pokemon didn't change the music, I would have loved to seen how the dub handled whatever movie had Porno Graffiti perform the ending song.
