Kingdom Hearts III Game's 'Classic Kingdom' Trailer Previews Mini-Games

User names of 300 players of Kingdom Hearts Union χ game will also feature in final game

Square Enix began streaming a "Classic Kingdom" trailer for its Kingdom Hearts III game on Monday. The video shows a segment of the game inspired by classic Disney cartoons as well as Game & Watch titles. Kingdom Hearts III will include more than 20 of these mini-games.

In addition, Square Enix revealed during the "Dandelion Meeting" event for the Kingdom Hearts Union χ smartphone game on Sunday that 300 players of the game will be chosen to have their user names appear within the Kingdom Hearts III game. Players must fill out an online survey accessible through the Kingdom Hearts Union χ game, and collect points to be eligible for selection. The event also revealed that the smartphone game is getting a 1-vs-1 player-vs-player mode.

Square Enix previously announced that Kingdom Hearts III is slated for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles this year. American retailer Target briefly listed a November 1 release date for pre-orders of the game. The page no longer lists the pre-order ship date, and now lists a December 31 general release date for the game.

Square Enix first announced Kingdom Hearts III in 2013. The company stated last May that the game was slated for release "in the next three years."

The game's Toy Story world will feature an original story. The game's other confirmed new worlds so far include Tangled, Big Hero 6 and Monsters, Inc., and the returning Olympus Coliseum world.

The game will also feature the return of the Gummi Ship, but it will have two phases. The exploration phase will feature a more open-world exploratory environment, while the combat phase will have an increased scale compared to previous games.

Hikaru Utada returns to perform the game's theme song "Don't Think Twice."

Game director Tetsuya Nomura has noted that the game will have another playable character besides Sora. Nomura has also said that developers are focusing on the PS4 and Xbox One releases before a possible release for the Nintendo Switch, adding that after the PS4 and Xbox One versions have shipped, "maybe we can start thinking about other possibilities.”
