Sega slates RPG for release on iOS, Android in 2018

Sega revealed on Tuesday that it will release the new Idola Phantasy Star Saga role-playing game for iOS and Android devices this year. The game marks the franchise's 30th anniversary. An official website for the game launched and began streaming a teaser promotional video.

The game's story is set in the war-torn land of Vandoll. Swords and magic dominate the world, and mysterious giant creatures known as "Idola" wander about threatening the lives of humanity. As people continue their daily battles against Idola, the resurrection of Dark Falz begins. Dark Falz is the god of destruction who was sealed away long ago. Humanity has to fight to stop the resurrection while uncovering the truth of the Idola connected to Dark Falz.

The story centers on Yuri (voiced by Toshiki Masuda), an orphan who joins the Aries Knights. Yuri has a bright, honest, and open-hearted personality, and he becomes the Aries Knights' flying corps captain. Stella (voiced by Akane Fujita) leads the Aries Knights, an armed brigade who fights against the Idola. Stella has a bold personality when she wears her iron mask but becomes shy when she removes it.

The game will feature command-based battles, and Sega will introduce a new battle system unique to the game. The sides of Law and Chaos will play a key role in the game's system.

Shuntarō Tanaka (Phantasy Star Online 2 es, Phantasy Star Online 2) is the game's producer, and he is also writing the script and developing the game's world. Tomomasa Chin (Phantasy Star Online 2 es, Phantasy Star Online 2) is directing the game, and Shō Mutsuura (Phantasy Star Online 2) is serving as art director.

Pre-registration for the game is available now. If at least 100,000 people pre-register, all players will receive a five-star Quna.

Phantasy Star Online 2 Cloud, the Nintendo Switch version of the Phantasy Star Online 2 game, launched on April 4. Sega first released the free-to-play Phantasy Star Online 2 role-playing game for Windows PC in Japan in 2012, followed by a PlayStation Vita release in 2013, and an Android and iOS release in April and May 2014, respectively. The game launched on the PlayStation 4 in April 2016, alongside the game's "Episode 4" update. The game has more than 4.5 million registered users.
