'Magical Beast Sherbert' Indie-Developed Manga Series Moves Forward With Crowdfunding Success

SEATTLE, JUNE 28, 2021 - The “Magical Beast Sherbert” manga series is reaching the end of a successful campaign on the crowdfunding site Kickstarter, and has exceeded its funding goal with 2 days remaining. Created and written by American creator Rai✰ and drawn by Mochiusagi (Aikatsu! GoGoGo), the “Magical Beast Sherbert” manga series is a twist on the genre, featuring a multiverse of magical girls and magical beasts. Sherbert is a creature from an alternate Earth called Lylasia, who winds up in our Tokyo when his magical ability to hop across dimensions awakens. He meets up with Erika Togawa, and gives her the power to transform into a magical girl. Together, they forge a bond of friendship and trust that makes them more powerful together than they ever were on their own! Facing evil not just in our world but in many other alternate Earths, Erika and Sherbert fight to prove the magic of their bond is the most powerful magic in the multiverse!

The Kickstarter campaign launched on June 6th, and runs through 11:55am PST July 1st. The manga series storyline parallels the planned anime series by ZEXCS, and backer rewards include the manga in print as well as digital, and limited edition enamel pins. The campaign also features a manga trailer, with Kappei Yamaguchi (InuYasha, Death Note, One Piece) providing the voice of Sherbert, and Maria Naganawa (BNA, Ms. Kobayashi's Dragon Maid) as the voice of Erika. Both actors have been confirmed for the anime series, as well.

“We are extremely grateful to the fans who have shown so much support for Magical Beast Sherbert in our campaign and online. We wouldn't be here without them.” says creator Rai✰, whose work includes in-game anime production for western game developers. “This is a different take on the magical girl genre that has a lot of people excited, and they feel our passion for the characters and story. With Mochiusagi's adorable art style, the manga is a perfect companion to the anime storyline.”
